  9. DISK DS-1 PC-WRITE -- "One of the most ambitious attempts at making
  10. a success of the user-supported concept."  BYTE magazine.

  12. PC-WRITE has all the bells and whistles you'd expect of a topnotch
  13. professional program: automatic wordwrap, on screen formatting, nine
  14. (count 'em, nine) help screens, right justification, overwrite or
  15. insertion, underlining, boldface, double width, flexible margins,
  16. split screen capabilities, user definable keyboards, allows for
  17. recording and playback of keyboard sequences, block moves, and more!
  18. PC-WRITE was ranked the 9th best word processing program by readers
  19. of PC World in October 1985. Compatible with almost all MS-DOS
  20. computers, including PC jr.

  24. DISK 53 EASYRITE/LABLFILE -- EASYRITE is a word-processor that rivals
  25. WORDY in its simplicity, although its approach is entirely different.
  26. EASYRITE is a "line oriented" word processor.  That means you work on
  27. only one line at a time.  Changes to the line you are on are made
  28. immediately.  Once you press return you have accepted the line.  To
  29. edit again, you must redo the entire line.  Many people find this
  30. approach intuitively correct.  Entirely menu-driven. Maximum length
  31. of document is 200 lines.

  33. LABLFILE is the ultimate label maker.  Features:  two label sizes,
  34. four print styles, menu-driven, add records, edit records, load file,
  35. save file, review records, multiple copies, and more.  It even
  36. displays elapsed time.

  38. DISK 3 WORDY/PRINT SETUP -- WORDY is one of the simplest word
  39. processing programs you'll ever find.  It can't do one quarter of the
  40. tricks that PC-Write can.  However, it is perfect for writing a
  41. simple letter or a school report.  Documentation is short but
  42. adequate.  Functions include file creation, saving to and loading
  43. from disk, and edit and print current file.
  44.  
  45. PRINT SETUP is a simple program which sets your printer to take
  46. advantage of expanded print, compressed, etc.

  48. DISK DS-64 TURBO SPELL Version 1.1 --TURBO SPELL is a user supported
  49. spelling checker that was released in November, 1985. When TURBO
  50. SPELL finds a word it doesn't recognize, it highlights the word and
  51. gives you four choices: 1. Word is spelled correctly, continue
  52. checking 2. Word is spelled correctly, remember it, and continue 3.
  53. Word is spelled incorrectly, indicate correct spelling 4. Quit
  54. checking this file.  Works on almost all word processing systems. The
  55. main dictionary can be easily added to at any time.  TURBO SPELL
  56. requires 192K or more RAM plus PC or MS-DOS version 2.0 or later.
  57. Supports either color graphics or monochrome.

  61. DISK 4 FX-SETUP -- If you do much work with your dot matrix printer,
  62. you need FX-SETUP.  Just boot the program and you can instantly tell
  63. your printer to do anything you want it to do: pica or elite print,
  64. proportional printing, double strike, emphasized type, enlarged,
  65. condensed, superscript, subscript, skip perf, different language
  66. sets, and more.  You can even create your own character set. Or use a
  67. language font already created.  FX-SETUP can easily be customized for
  68. any printer.  It's already set up for any Epson printers.

  70. DISK 5 SPOOLER -- This print spooler is the simplest to use we have
  71. ever seen.  Just type "SP" to install. From then on, whenever you
  72. want to print something, just follow your normal procedures.  SP will
  73. automatically store the information in a special buffer (16K to 64K
  74. in size).  Then the printer can take its time printing and you can go
  75. back to computing.  You'll wonder how you lived without it.

  77. Also included are three other print spooler programs: MSPOOL1,
  78. SPOOLER1, AND SPOOLER2.  These programs are professional in their
  79. feel (but also a little more complicated to use).

  81. DISK 6 POSTER/BANNER -- Share the fun of your computer with others
  82. using these two basic programs.  You enter your message and POSTER
  83. prints it out as a poster using large letters. These large letters
  84. are made up of little letters.  You can specify a message for these
  85. little letters if you wish.  For example, the poster might read
  86. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANN" in big letters.  These big letters could be made
  87. of little letters which said "LOVE" or "KISSME" or "BADBREATH".

  89. BANNER is a program which prints out huge block letters sideways on
  90. continuous paper.  You can choose from seven different sizes. Big
  91. letters are printed from little letters of your choosing. Easy to
  92. use.

  94. DISK DS-63 PC-DESK -- Would you believe the first Freeware integrated
  95. program?  It's PC-DESK.  Integrated functions include:
  96. Calendar/Reminder, Address File, Word Processor, Automatic Letter
  97. Writer with Mail Merge, Calculator, Automatic Phone Dialer, On-Screen
  98. Clock, and Telephone Directory.  Prints:  mailing labels, envelopes,
  99. letters, memos, repetitive labels, and Rolodex cards. Entirely
  100. menu-driven with no commands to memorize.  Brand spanking new.

  107. DISK DS-71 PC-DESKMATES -- Move over Sidekick.  PC-DESKMATES is
  108. here!  This RAM resident program (uses 64K) is always available
  109. at the touch of a key.  Nine desktop tools:  alarm clock,
  110. calculator, phone book, appointment calendar, DOS commands, phone
  111. dialer, notepad, printer controls, and typewriter.  Requires 128K
  112. and PC DOS 2.X.  Runs on IBM PC/XT/AT/Jr. or true compatibles.

  117. DISK DS-8 PC-CALC -- This is an electronic spreadsheet program like
  118. 1-2-3 or Multiplan.  Features include: 26 columns and 255 lines,
  119. variable column width, hidden columns, linkage of one spreadsheet to
  120. another, and built-in financial formulas.  If you are a PC-File user,
  121. PC-CALC can reach into your data base to extract data or add up
  122. numbers.  This is probably the best Shareware calc program around.

  126. DISK 9 MAIL LIST 2 --  MAIL LIST 2 is a user friendly program that
  127. will do everything you would ever need to do with a list manager.
  128. Features include:  create name and address files, add new names and
  129. addresses, sort files using name or zip code, display files, update
  130. files, print hard copy of files for labels or listings, and delete
  131. files.  Function keys are used for all menu decisions.  The program
  132. is self documenting.

  134. DISK 10 THE PAD (PAD.WKS) -- THE PAD is a Lotus 1-2-3 worksheet. THE
  135. PAD sets up a business calendar, personal calendar, telephone
  136. numbers, notes on special projects, and business notes.  Even if you
  137. don't use it as the author intended, it's fascinating to see how a
  138. menu-driven program can be put together using 1-2-3.

  140. DISK DS-11 TIME AND MONEY --  This is an outstanding home financial
  141. manager program.  Create your home budget. Track your expenditures.
  142. Project your finances into the future. Use it to analyze financial
  143. decisions:  buy a house versus rent or fix up the old car versus
  144. buying a new one.  Many other features.  Menu driven and a snap to
  145. use.  Includes a manual on disk. A superb program.

  149. DISK DS-12 PERSONAL FINANCE MANAGER -- This is the 1985 release of
  150. this popular program (version 4.5).  All functions are menu driven.
  151. On disk documentation is included, but it is so easy to operate the
  152. program that careful study of documentation is unnecessary. Functions
  153. include: accounting of all checks, investment and savings, budget
  154. reports, and tax reports.  Professional quality throughout.

  158. DISK DS-13 PC-FILE  Version 9.0 -- "PC-FILE is one of the classic
  159. user-supported programs."  BYTE magazine.

  161. PC-FILE will handle all but the most sophisticated data base needs.
  162. Easy to use, and f-a-s-t!  Version 9.0 handles up to 4,000 files in
  163. memory.  This means sorting or accessing information is many times
  164. faster than programs which must constantly go to disk to get their
  165. information. Data can be imported and exported to other programs.
  166. Includes a report generator and many other goodies.  In October 1985
  167. readers of PC World voted PC-FILE as the second best data base
  168. program available at any price.

  172. DISK 67 EASYFILE -- EASYFILE is a medium strength database program.
  173. EASYFILE handles a maximum of 1,000 records per file, but you can
  174. have multiple files on the same disk.  Commands include:  Display,
  175. Add, Copy, Print, Erase, Status Report, Select new file, Change
  176. display to Color or Mono.

  178. DISK DS-14 NEWKEY -- NEWKEY is a Prokey-style program that allows you
  179. to redefine almost any key on your keyboard.  Create your own macros
  180. that run with any program. Your definitions can be saved, merged, and
  181. loaded.  NEWKEY is RAM resident, which means it's there to use no
  182. matter what program you are working with.  Takes only 3.7 K of memory
  183. plus your definitions (up to 27 K).  Commands and features are
  184. similar to Prokey.  Customize your software so it runs the way you
  185. want it to! On-disk documentation and sample definitions.

  189. DISK 15 FILE CABINET/HOME INVENTORY -- FILE CABINET is a simple data
  190. base program written in basic.  It's not as powerful as PC-FILE, but
  191. it's plenty good for home use.  It does all the standard stuff:
  192. select data base, search, change data, enter records, delete records,
  193. report, sort, and print.  Easy to use.
  194.  
  195. HOME INVENTORY is another home oriented program.  It allows you to
  196. create an inventory of what you have at home for insurance purposes.
  197. You enter a description of the item, how many, the replacement cost,
  198. and the location (choose from one of eight preset locations).

  200. DISK DS-16 PC-PICTURE GRAPHICS SYSTEM -- This is one dynamite
  201. graphics package! It can create absolutely professional graphics. Ten
  202. demo graphics are included to give you a feel for the range of
  203. possibilities.  Simple to use.  Menu driven and capable of sending
  204. pictures to plotters via a graph file or digitizing.

  211. DISK DS-19 PC-DIAL -- Although its approach is simple and
  212. straightforward, its capabilities surpass those of some of the more
  213. expensive communications programs on the market today.  Features
  214. include: speeds of up to 9600 baud, send and receive all types of
  215. files, uses modems which do or don't support auto-dial, automatic
  216. redialing, save a picture of your screen to disk, supports xmodem
  217. transmissions, automatic logon sequences of any length.  Runs on the
  218. PC jr. too.  Top rate.

  222. DISK DS-57 HOST III -- HOST III is a remarkably good bulletin board
  223. system.  It requires a Hayes Smartmodem (or compatible) and at least
  224. 128K.  This program is useful not only as a bulletin board, but any
  225. time you transfer files by modem.  Regular communications programs
  226. require constant monitoring.  HOST III automates everything. HOSTCALL
  227. allows both ends of the communications link to be automated.
  228. Features:  transfer any type of file, supports XMODEM, password
  229. protection, automatic hangup, 9 commands for user at the other end,
  230. simple installation, and 19 pages of on-disk documentation.

  235.                           UTILITY PROGRAMS
  236.  
  237. DISK 20 UTILITY DISK A -- CHECKOUT acts like a computer doctor. You
  238. can easily check out your parallel port(s), serial port(s), CRT
  239. display, or smart modem (impulse dial or touchtone dial).
  240.  
  241. DISK DRIVE TESTER checks for disk drive functions like creating
  242. files, reading files, and read/write files.
  243.  
  244. If you've ever had to copy or delete many programs at one time, you
  245. know using a wild card match can often be disastrous.  GLOBAL COPY &
  246. DELETE is a nifty way to solve that problem.  You move through the
  247. files and mark those which you want to copy or delete, then the
  248. program handles all the work at once.
  249.  
  250. SUPERTYPER offers several improvements over the DOS type command.
  251. First, the display is paged, not scrolled. This makes it much easier
  252. to read.  Second, previously displayed pages are saved and can be
  253. shown again using the PgUp and PgDn commands. Other benefits too.
  254. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
  255. DISK 21 UTILITY DISK B -- BACKSCROLL! is a bi-directional scrolling
  256. utility.  You can save an entire screen of information just by
  257. hitting control and return.  Later you can go back and scroll this
  258. information up or down with just a few keystrokes.  This program is
  259. especially useful with communications programs.  It allows the user
  260. to review large amounts of data easily. Great fun to use.
  261.  
  262. UNPROTECT (UN.P) will unprotect IBM's file protection method for
  263. basic programs.  This program will not make backup copies of
  264. commercial software.
  265.  
  266. DISK CLEANER (CLEAN.COM) is designed to work with a disk cleaning
  267. diskette.  It runs your disk drive through a series of motions
  268. designed to ensure you get the most out of your cleaning diskette.
  269. 
  270. HELPCOM is a BASIC program which provides an on screen reference/help
  271. screen for just about everything important about your computer:  DOS
  272. commands, basic commands, edlin commands, word processing
  273. commands--it goes on and on. There are 16 screens in all.
  274. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
  275. DISK 22  UTILITY DISK C -- SPEED 411 dramatically speeds up loading
  276. and saving data to your disk drive.  Easy to install.
  277.  
  278. FASTPRINT allows you to modify the "PrtSc" function so printing stops
  279. when you hit the "PrtSc" key a second time.  A great time saver.
  280.  
  281. If you ever leave your computer turned on when you're not around,
  282. you're risking phosphor burn.  If something is displayed on the
  283. screen long enough, it can become permanently etched there. SCREEN
  284. SAVER turns off the screen display if no keys have been touched for
  285. three minutes.  When you touch any key, the display returns.
  286.  
  287. FILE LOCATOR (WHEREIS.COM) is a godsend if you've got a hard disk or
  288. if you use multiple directory paths.  This program searches for the
  289. file you indicate through all DOS 2.0 directories and lists matching
  290. files with their directories and subdirectories.
  291.  
  292. FINANCIAL PACKAGE is a menu-driven program which handles 20 financial
  293. calculations such as Loan Payment Schedules, Mortgage Amortization
  294. Table, Effective Interest Rates, Annual Depreciation Rate, etc.
  295. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
  296. DISK 65 UTILITY DISK D -- BROWSE is a surprisingly useful utility
  297. program.  BROWSE lets you load text files into memory and then view
  298. one full screen at a time.  You use the arrow keys to scroll up,
  299. down, left, and right.  Home takes you to the beginning.  End goes to
  300. the end. Great for on-disk documentation.
  301.  
  302. SUPER DIRECTORY version 2.4 is the latest, greatest version of a
  303. classic program.  It's a directory command that allows you to sort
  304. files alphabetically, by extension, by size, or by date/time.  It
  305. also shows hidden files, as well as the attributes of all files
  306. (hidden, system, read only, etc.).  
  307.  
  308. MOVE IT allows you to clean up your hard disk.  If you have some
  309. programs under the wrong sub-directory MOVE IT can easily and quickly
  310. transfer the files to the right directory, then delete the old files
  311. automatically.  Copies as many or as few programs as you wish.
  312.  
  313. DOS 2.0 SPEED UP is a brief explanation of how to modify your DOS to
  314. speed up your disk drive operation while making it much quieter.
  315. Just enter 11 lines of commands and the change is made.
  316. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
  317. DISK 66 UTILITY DISK E -- DISKETTE ORGANIZER (COVER) is a nifty
  318. little program that only does one thing, but does it very well. It
  319. sorts and formats directory information, then prints it out so it is
  320. just the right size to fit inside the diskette envelope.  You'll have
  321. a handy hard copy of all the files on the disk, their size, free
  322. space, and the date.
  323.  
  324. FILE COMMANDER (ALTER) allows you to change the attributes of your
  325. files at will.  For example, you can hide any file.  You can make a
  326. file "read only" so it can't be erased.  Check your DOS 2.X manual
  327. for information on file attributes.
  328.  
  329. DOS EDITOR (NDOSEDIT) changes the way the keypad keys are used in
  330. normal DOS operations.  The new meanings are far more natural for the
  331. average user.  For example:  Pressing control and the left arrow
  332. takes you to the beginning of the previous word. Twenty commands.
  333.  
  334. MEMORY allows dynamic setting and resetting of the amount of memory
  335. used by DOS.  You can set your system switches for anything you want,
  336. then use MEMORY to tell DOS to use all your memory.

  338. DISK 23 COMMERCIAL UNPROTECT -- The descriptions on this disk tell
  339. you how to legally make backup copies of your own commercial
  340. software.  Here are the programs you can archive:  Lotus 123,
  341. Easywriter, Flight Simulator, Memory Shift, PFS:File, Visicalc, Word,
  342. and Zork.  Also included is COPY, a program which will copy some
  343. other protected programs.
  344. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
  345. DISK 24 UTIL 1.3/WASH/DISK UTILITIES -- UTIL 1.3 is a wonderful
  346. utility program that lets you do all sorts of things quickly and
  347. easily without having to use or remember DOS commands: sort a
  348. directory, browse a text file, redefine your keyboard, type directly
  349. to the printer, switch to color or monochrome screen.
  350.  
  351. WASH allows you to handle many maintenance items without remembering
  352. complicated DOS commands.  Includes these functions:  view a file,
  353. print a file, copy file to another disk, rename file, delete file,
  354. backup file, and other features.
  355.  
  356. DISK UTILITIES allows you to list all files (including hidden and
  357. erased files), hide normal files, and recover erased files.
  358. Menu-driven and self-documenting.
  359. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
  360. DISK 25 RAMDISK/BOOTMEM -- If you have at least 256K of RAM, you can
  361. transform part of that memory into a RAM disk C with RAMDISK
  362. (FREE1), a disk drive emulator.  Now you can access your program 50
  363. to 100 times faster than you can with a regular disk drive.  Not only
  364. that, but you avoid the wear and tear on your drives.
  365. 
  366. With BOOTMEM (FREE3) you can reboot your computer without losing what
  367. you have stored in memory.  This can be useful to anyone. It is
  368. especially useful when you are using RAMDISK.

  370. DISK DS-26 ULTRA UTILITIES -- "Some of the very handiest, most
  371. essential utilities that I have ever seen."  R.B., Overland Park,

  374. The ULTRA UTILITIES allow you to archive commercially protected
  375. disks.  On disk documentation explains the use of tracks beyond the
  376. conventional 40 and describes some of the more common sectoring
  377. methods used to copy-protect commercial software.  Fix damaged files
  378. and directories.  Many more applications.

  382. DISK 28 DISK CATALOG (DISKCAT)/AUTOFILE -- "This program sets a new
  383. tone for user friendliness and total diskette catalog control!" P.C.,
  384. Sunnyvale, California.
  385.  
  386. DISK CATALOG allows you to create and print a catalog of files
  387. contained on up to 50 diskettes.  You can also enter a description of
  388. each file and organize them by preestablished  categories.  Entry of
  389. the information is a snap. Just insert each diskette when prompted.
  390. DISK CATALOG handles the rest.  Then you can sort your files in any
  391. of several ways and print out a hard copy if you wish.
  392.  
  393. AUTOFILE is an easy to use file management program.  Use it to store
  394. inventory records, recipes, etc. Call up the information you need by
  395. searching for key words (up to 42 of them) or for any word you wish.
  396. Commands include:  Add, Find, Edit, Return, Delete, Print, Next.
  397. Extensive use of function keys and the keypad.
  398. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
  399. DISK 29 KEYBOARD UTILITIES -- IBM should have put some little LED
  400. lights on the "Caps Lock" and "Num Lock" keys to show when they are
  401. locked in.  UPNUM is a utility that takes care of that problem.  No
  402. matter what program you are running, UPNUM will display the status of
  403. the "Caps Lock" and "Num Lock" keys in the upper left hand corner of
  404. your screen. Handy. Saves much frustration.
  405.  
  406. Have you ever "typed" a doc file to the screen and watched it scroll
  407. off into hyperspace?  No more!  SCROLLK makes the "Scroll Lock" key
  408. work the way it should.  Press it once and it stops the screen from
  409. scrolling and the message "more" flashes in the bottom left hand
  410. corner.  Press it again and the scroll continues.
  411.  
  412. DDATE is a time saver for those of us who don't have a built in time
  413. and date clock.  When you boot your PC this utility remembers what
  414. the date was the last time you used it.  Hit return to accept that
  415. date or change the date, month, or year by using the arrow keys.

  417. DISK DS-30 CHEAP ASSEMBLER (CHASM) --  CHASM is a fine 8086 assembler

  663. in a deserted Castle.  The Castle is full of treasures.  That's the
  664. good news.  The bad news is that the Castle is full of monsters. And

  666. things that chase you around the room.  You'd better have a weapon
  667. and some armor if you plan to fight.  Otherwise, get out fast!  The
  668. cursor keypad moves your man.  You also type in two word commands.
  669. You can pick up the items you need to collect the treasures, fight
  670. off the monsters, and find your way out of the Castle.  High scores
  671. are saved on the wall in the courtyard.  There are 83 rooms and 13
